What We Have Done

  • Legislative Achievements
    • We have served in senior level positions as lobbyists, in state government, and on political campaigns.  We have been involved in many legislative successes, including:
      • Led effort with others to secure $146M for SUTA relief
      • Served on the SC Civil Justice Coalition Executive Board to twice enact Tort Reform and to enact Workers’ Compensation Reform
      • Part of team to advocate for Small Business Income Tax Reduction Act
      • Led effort with others to enact legislation that created the Tax Realignment Commission (TRAC)
      • Led Department of Motor Vehicles Reform as staff in SC Senate
      • Led effort with others to secure Film rebates
      • Helped to enact the Film Incentives Act

Speaker Bobby Harrell on passing 2011 SUTA tax relief:
“One of the most important things that House Members did today was to direct $146 million in surplus revenue to paying back money our state had to borrow to fund the unemployment insurance trust.  This responsible budgeting by the House will prevent South Carolina businesses – both small and large – from solely shouldering this debt repayment through increased taxes.  Making this debt payment a priority also removes the threat of hefty federal fines that would only increase the total amount South Carolina taxpayers owe.”

Some of Our Acccomplishments

  • Lead the charge for SUTA relief and $146,000,000 in state appropriations
  • Created the Upstate Chamber Coalition
  • Film Incentives Act
  • Tort Reform
  • Workers’ Compensation Reform
  • Small Business Income Tax Reduction Act
  • Tax Realignment Commission (TRAC)
  • Department of Motor Vehicles Reform

JFK on the importance of lobbying

“Lobbyists are in many cases expert technicians and capable of explaining complex and difficult subjects in a clear, understandable fashion. They engage in personal discussions...in which they can explain in detail the reasons for positions they advocate. ...the lobbyists who speak for the various economic, commercial, and other functional interests of this country serve a very useful purpose and have assumed an important role in the legislative process.” President John F. Kennedy
